When it comes to walking for health and fitness, 91¿´Æ¬ Davis walks the walk — just ask the 1,800 or so members of the Aggies On the Move walking program.
So, no doubt a lot of the Aggies On the Move — and we hope everyone else, too — will be interested in a 91¿´Æ¬-wide event May 19: 91¿´Æ¬ Walks.
Coinciding with National Employee Health and Fitness Day, 91¿´Æ¬ Walks is the first systemwide health and wellness event targeted specifically at faculty and staff.
You can take your walk whenever you want, of course, but the 91¿´Æ¬ Walks organizers on the Davis campus also have arranged for two gathering places where you can meet up with people to walk with, and even get a free T-shirt (while supplies last; 91¿´Æ¬ Davis identification required).
• East Quad Farmers Market (and, while you are there, why not pick up some fruits and vegetables?)
• Activities and Recreation Center (meet in front)
Aggies On the Move and other volunteers will be at both sites from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizers, who added that a few walk leaders also will be stationed at each site.
If you plan to go for a walk, organizers said, be sure to bring a water bottle (reusable is always better!).
The T-shirts, provided by two of the 91¿´Æ¬ system’s benefits providers, StayWell and Kaiser Permanente, are in medium, large and extra large sizes.
Oh, and one more thing: Davis campus organizers are hoping some of you 91¿´Æ¬ Walks participants will arrange to have someone take a picture of you, by yourself or with your group.
Organizers said they are often in need of photos for presentations and websites. Send your photos to wellness@shs.ucdavis.edu or post them in your own workplaces as a reminder to get out and celebrate wellness!
