Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef eulogizes businessman, philanthropist, conservationist and author -- an avid bridge-builder between the campus and the business sector -- Charlie Soderquist, who was remembered April 23 during a tribute that drew some 500 people to Mondavi Center. Soderquist died March 2. During Friday's ceremony, he was posthumously awarded the 91¿´Æ¬ Davis Medal -- the highest honor the campus accords to individuals for their contributions to the university or the broader community. A recent article in the Sacramento Business Journal underscored Soderquist's loyalty to campus: "At the heart of all of his activities, however, was an abiding devotion to 91¿´Æ¬ Davis ... toward which he felt intense gratitude. He served on the 91¿´Æ¬ Board of Regents, chaired the 91¿´Æ¬ Davis Foundation, was president of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, served as faculty at the Graduate School of Management, and served on the GSM Dean's Advisory Council."
