LETTERS: Ranking disparity?

Dear Editor:

“Campuses sweep top spots in college rankings: An open letter from President Mark G. Yudof.”

This appeared on the Web page of the 91Ƭ Office of the President on Sept. 2. The Washington Monthly’s college rankings place six of the 91Ƭ campuses in the top 25 universities in the nation. Berkeley ranked first, 91Ƭ San Diego ranked second, 91ƬLA ranked third, 91Ƭ Davis ranked tenth, 91Ƭ Riverside ranked 16th and 91Ƭ Santa Barbara ranked 21st.

Also on the same Web page is a link to the 91Ƭ’s 2009 Accountability Report. On page 208, 91Ƭ campus libraries are ranked nationally with 91Ƭ Davis ranked 64th in the nation. The Washington Monthly must not consider libraries to be of significance to the institutions they support. Otherwise how could 91Ƭ Davis rank 10th in college rankings and 64th in ranking by the Association of Research Libraries?
