91¿´Æ¬ Davis beat Georgia College and State University in Salem, Ore., on Sunday winning the school's first-ever NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
91¿´Æ¬ Davis completed a five-game unbeaten run through the eight-team field over the past four days, finishing its last season at the Division II level with a 53-15 record, setting a school record for wins.
"There are no words to describe the feeling," said 91¿´Æ¬ Davis coach Kathy DeYoung. "It's a dream come true, especially with this team. I've been saying all along that they have been one of the most special teams. It's been a wonderful experience through the whole season."
91¿´Æ¬ Davis delivered the 25th-year head coach her first national championship with the convincing win over Georgia College and State University, 7-0. "I don't think it's really going to sink in for another day or two," said DeYoung. "You couldn't have scripted it any better."
The NCAA Championship is the seventh for 91¿´Æ¬ Davis and the fifth for a women's team, following the rowing team's title last year. The Aggies were playing in their fifth NCAA Finals tournament, finishing third each of the previous four times, most recently in 2000.
