William Garrity Named University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship

William Garrity, deputy university librarian and the library’s chief operating officer, has been selected as the next university librarian and vice provost of digital scholarship for 91��Ƭ Davis. Garrity, who has served as interim university librarian since July 2023, will officially start on May 15.

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter recently added “Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship” to University Librarian MacKenzie Smith’s title in recognition of the evolution of scholarly communications in the 21st century and concomitantly of her role at 91��Ƭ Davis.

The new title, which took effect this month, acknowledges Smith’s national expertise in digital scholarship and will solidify 91��Ƭ Davis and the 91��Ƭ Davis Library’s leadership in digital scholarship with 91��Ƭ Davis’ academic and industry partners throughout the country, Hexter said.
